The Humble Indie Bundle (pay what you want), which we informed you about last week, has raised over a million dollars.
The fantastic deal included five indie games, and a sixth was added during the week (Samorost 2). Users chose how much they wanted to pay for the games, and how exactly they wanted the money divided between the developers and the charities. As of right now, here are the numbers:
- Total money raised - $1,104,139 Portion that will go to charity - $341,883 (30.96%) Number of contributions - 121,045 Average contribution - $9.12 Platform average contribution breakdown - [Windows - $8.01 / Mac - $10.21 / Linux - $14.57]
I for one think that this is quite amazing; the fact that over a million dollars were raised in one week’s time with nothing more than word of mouth to promote it. It makes me proud of all us gamers out there.
When they hit the million mark today, the teams pledged to release the source codes for Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru HD, and Penumbra Overture to the public, which you can find more information about on the website. Currently, only Lugaru HD’s source code is available, though the other three should be available shortly.
The people behind the event have decided to extend the deadline for a few more days to go along with the announcement of the four games going open source.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, I would encourage you to do so while there’s still time. You’ll be sure to find a lot of enjoyment across all six games, and giving to charity is always a good thing. The games work on Windows, Mac, and Linux, so everyone can enjoy some great indie gaming for the price of their choosing.
