Apple often rolls out firmware updates to its AirPods Pros, AirPods (2nd Gen) and the rest of its wearables. These automatic updates often don’t require any user action to install. However, at some point, you might want to update your AirPods Pro manually.

AirPods Pro has exciting features, including active noise cancellation, adaptive EQ, and a custom high-excursion amplifier. Transparency mode, wireless charging, and a new Spatial Audio mode are among the others.

An update is essential to ensure you have access to the latest features available for your AirPods Pro. Some features don’t work properly without the most current firmware version. Our handy guide will show you how to update your AirPods Pro quickly.

Step 1: Place Your AirPods Pros in Their Charging Case

Before you start the update, ensure your AirPods Pro is in its charging case. Open the case lid and make sure your AirPods Pro is connected to its charging cable.

Some use Qi-compatible wireless chargers, while others use lightning cables. Either way, ensure your AirPods Pro is connected to some power source. If the AirPods Pro disconnects or powers out during the update, the process might be interrupted, and you will have to start over.

Step 2: Open the Bluetooth Settings on Your iPhone or iPad

The first step to manually updating your AirPods Pro is ensuring your device’s Bluetooth connection is working correctly. With the AirPods Pros in the charging case and connected to power, open the Bluetooth settings on your device. Start by clicking on the settings app, then scroll to find the Bluetooth option and tap it.

Ensure that your phone is within the Bluetooth range of your AirPods Pro, about 30 to 60 feet. Your device should automatically search for available Bluetooth devices as soon as you open it.

Step 3: Pair Your AirPods Pro with Your Device

Once your iPhone or iPad finishes searching for available Bluetooth devices, it should display a list of all the nearby Bluetooth devices. Look for your Aiirpods Pro on the list and tap on it to pair your device with your iPhone or iPad. It should indicate “Connected” once the pairing is successful.

To reset your device, press the setup button at the back of the charging case and hold for about 15 seconds until the LED indicator flashes white.

After that, reopen the Bluetooth settings on your iPhone or iPad and look for it again on the list of available devices. It should now appear on the list, and you can tap it to pair it with your iPhone or iPad.

Step 4: Leave the AirPods Pro in the Charging Case Next to Your iPhone or iPad

Once your AirPods Pro is successfully paired with your iPhone or iPad, leave it in its charging case next to the device while you wait for the update process.

The update can take up to 30 minutes, and you mustn’t move the AirPods Pro from its charging case during this time. The process is automatic, meaning your iPhone or iPad will download and install the new firmware on your AirPods Pro without you having to do anything else. Apple doesn’t display any message or indication when the update is complete.

How to Confirm if Your AirPods Pro is Updated

Running the update isn’t enough to confirm that the new firmware is successfully installed on your AirPods Pro. You must ensure that your AirPods Pro is running the most current firmware version to be sure everything is in order.

Using your iPhone or iPad is the only way to check if the firmware version is the most recent. Apple didn’t provide a way to confirm the firmware version directly on AirPods Pro.

Here is how to check whether your AirPods Pro is running the latest version:

  • Open settings on your device. This step should look familiar by now. Look for the General option and tap on it.Scroll down, tap the About section, and look for the AirPods Pro option. Your device will display the firmware version installed on your AirPods Pro.Check to see if its version number matches the one on Apple’s website.

If it does, your AirPods Pro is updated and running the latest firmware. If the version numbers don’t match, probably the update process didn’t go through correctly, and you must try to repeat the steps again.

The firmware version as of this writing is 5B58, and Apple is working on pushing out new updates in the future to improve your AirPods Pro experience. This firmware version is the same across all the AirPods except for the first generation, which runs on version 6.8.8.

You should also ensure that your iOS device is always running on the latest version to get the best experience with your AirPods Pro. You can update your device from the settings app, then General, and then Software Update.

Conclusion

Apple regularly pushes out new updates to fix bugs and improve the overall experience with your AirPods Pro. To ensure you don’t miss any important updates, keep an eye out on Apple’s website for the latest version information.

If you encounter any problems with your AirPods Pro, there’s a good chance that a future update will solve it. Make sure you install all updates as soon as they become available to get the best possible experience with your AirPods Pro!
