Sony has invited PS4 users to help beta test its next major system software update ahead of its release, allowing players to get a “sneak peek” at new features before they become publicly available.
To get involved you’ll need a PS4 console, an internet connection and a PSN master account (Sony says that sub-accounts cannot participate in testing), and sign up to the beta here.
The beta will begin on Wednesday, September 2, although Sony recommends that those interested sign up “sooner rather than later”, as only a limited number applicants will be accepted.
If you do sign up and choose to opt out, you’ll be able to roll back to an earlier PS4 update 2.57 at any time.
While unconfirmed, the beta is likely linked to PS4’s leaked 3.0 system update, which is rumoured to introduce new Events and Communities areas, an improved Messages layout, the option to upload video clips to Twitter and live YouTube broadcasting.
A public launch date for the next system software has yet to be announced.
