It’s become something of an annual tradition in recent years: the release of Spotify Wrapped. Toward the end of each year, Spotify sends out personalized rankings to each user, providing them with a rundown of their most-played music of the year. With this simple action, the ever-popular music streaming service has created a real (and very highly anticipated) phenomenon.

Users don’t just get to see what they listened to most throughout the year. They also glimpse what the entire Spotify community gravitated toward throughout the twelve months prior. It’s always a blast to see the songs, artists, albums, and genres each person preferred between January and December.

It’s even more fun to scroll through social media and see how everyone’s Wrapped turned out.

Naturally, the excitement and joy that comes with Spotify Wrapped have left some users wanting to know how to see your Spotify stats year-round — not just at the end of the latest twelve-month cycle. Thankfully, there are several ways for you to do this. We’ve compiled the best ways to learn how to see your Spotify stats below.

History of Spotify Wrapped

Spotify Wrapped debuted in December of 2015. It was met with immediate praise, though it was pretty basic at the time. The following December brought with it personal year-end playlists for each user. Many appreciated this added convenience filled with top hits and favorite tracks from the past twelve months.

In 2019, Spotify overhauled Spotify Wrapped. Unlike YouTube Rewind and other year-end wrap-ups, however, this overhaul was not met with criticism. Instead, it was praised for making a good thing even better. Now complete with an engaging in-app experience full of stories and shareable content, Spotify Wrapped had truly stepped into its own by embracing what made it so great.

How Spotify Wrapped Works

Spotify Wrapped has focused on a few key rankings for the past several years: top 5 artists, songs, and albums. Their algorithm analyzes users’ streams between January 1st and mid-November to get these stats. Then, the algorithm creates the top 5 lists from there.

Podcasts and anything listened to during a “Private Session” (found in your settings) do not count toward these lists. However, they contribute to your “total minutes listened” stats included in Wrapped.

Spotify has kept pretty coy about how it generates the stats and metrics for the rest of the annual Wrapped. Thankfully, some tech-savvy users have taken it upon themselves to do some analyzing on their own. Here’s what they discovered: a song needs to be played for more than 30 seconds to count as one play. Additionally, Spotify only counts total plays — not total minutes played — toward individual top 5s.

Alternatives to Spotify Wrapped

If you don’t want to wait until December to see your Spotify Wrapped, you definitely don’t have to. Not when there are so many alternatives to the year-end round-up out there. Some of them can even be found right inside Spotify itself. We’ve compiled some of the best options available to you below.

Checking Your Stats Via Spotify

While none of these stats are accessible via the Spotify app just yet, you can see plenty of useful information straight in the Spotify web app.

Top Artists of the Month

First and foremost, go to the computer and log into the Spotify web app. Once you’ve done that, navigate to your username in the top right of the page. Click on “Profile,” then maneuver to the section titled “Top artists this month.” Click “See all,” and you’ll have access to all of your top artists for that particular month.

Top Tracks of the Month

Looking for your top tracks of the month instead? The process isn’t all that different. While logged into the Spotify web app, click on “Profile” and scroll to the section called “Top tracks this month.” Once again, you’ll want to click “See all.” You will see your most-played tracks of that given month.

Checking Your Stats Via Third Parties

If you’re looking for something with a little more pizzaz that falls more in line with the showmanship of Spotify Wrapped, then it’s worth learning how to see your Spotify stats with a third-party app.

Stats.fm

Formerly known as Spotistats, Stats.fm is one of the leading Spotify stats providers to those who just don’t want to wait for Spotify Wrapped each year. In addition to a UI that looks and feels like Spotify’s, Stats.fm gives users the full range of statistics they wish to see. From top artists to top tracks, total stream times to total plays, Stats.fm also gives suggestions based on your listening activity.

Stats for Spotify

While their website might not be the most aesthetically pleasing, Stats for Spotify delivers a no-nonsense look at your top artists, tracks, and songs simply by logging into the site and allowing them to peruse your activity. They split up your rankings over various periods, from four weeks to all-time activity. Stats for Spotify even allows you to share your stats, which is always part of the fun of Spotify Wrapped.

Obscurify

While the above sites give you a good glimpse at your own activity, they don’t necessarily deliver on the other half of the Spotify Wrapped: seeing how the rest of the world compares. Obscurify still gives you the stats about your own streams, but it stands apart from the rest of the pack by showing you how obscure your taste is compared to the rest of the site’s users. It’s an appealing feature for those who like to have an individualized, one-of-a-kind taste in music.

Chosic

Last but not least, there’s Chosic: a site that rivals Spotify Wrapped for the way it compiles your top musical subgenres, decades, and moods. It’s one of the most interesting and revealing parts of Spotify Wrapped, so Chosic deserves some attention for finding a way to replicate this seemingly difficult metric to analyze.

Safety Tip When Using Third Party Sites

While these third-party sites are undoubtedly cool and all, it’s important to remember that many of these third parties are only free because they turn around and sell your user data to others. For this reason, it’s important to log out after you’re done to restrict access to your listening info.

Spotify offers you a handy way to do this. Go to the Spotify web app, click on your name in the top right, then click “Accounts.” From there, navigate to “Apps” (the puzzle piece icon). Click “Remove Access.” This will log you out and revoke access to your account from those third party sites.

When Is Spotify Wrapped 2022?

Spotify Wrapped isn’t the only way to see your Spotify Stats. However, with the risks and possible privacy violations associated with some third-party sites, it’s better to wait until Spotify Wrapped 2022 comes out.

Even though the stats provided year-round in your Spotify settings might not be as flashy or as intricate as Spotify Wrapped, it’s still the safer option compared to the third-party sites.

So, how much longer do you have to wait this year? Spotify Wrapped has always dropped on December 1st. That’s a Thursday this year, so there’s no reason to believe it wouldn’t follow the same pattern it has been following for the past several years. (Come 2024, when December 1st falls on a Sunday… Well, that remains to be seen if the streamer decides to wait until the 2nd or not.)

In the meantime, keep listening! There’s still time to push out those unwanted songs you were obsessed with back in January.
