What is Sensitive Content on Twitter?

Before we dive into our tutorial, let’s take a moment to inform you of the things you may see when you un-hide sensitive content on Twitter.

The company automatically marks some content as sensitive, while other content gets hidden by the author. Even when you follow the steps below to let Twitter know you want to see sensitive content, you may find sensitive content warnings on your feed.

If you want to see everything Twitter has to offer, you can un-hide sensitive content by following the steps outlined below.

How to See Sensitive Content on Twitter on the Web Browser

Step 1: Click the Menu Icon

Below the profile icon is a circle button with three dots. That’s your Twitter settings menu. Tap it.

Step 2: Click Settings and Privacy

A new drop-down menu will appear when you click the Twitter menu button. Click Settings and Support. Then, a new menu will appear where you can click the Settings and Privacy option.

Step 3: Click Privacy and Safety

Now, a new menu appears. You’ll see more options to choose from, but the one we’re looking for is about halfway down the page. Click the Privacy and Safety option.

Step 4: Click Content You See

How to Mark Your Account as Sensitive on Twitter

If you want to post NSFW content on Twitter but don’t want the company to ban your account, you should mark your account as Sensitive.

Marking your account as NSFW on Twitter lets the company know that you post more risky content and, therefore, relays that warning to other users and your followers. While you still can’t violate the company’s Terms of Use with the sensitive content indicator, it does ensure you don’t get banned on Twitter for sensitive content.

Follow these steps to protect your Twitter account from banning and let others know your content might be sensitive to some people.

First, we need to head over to your Twitter settings. Following the steps above, tap on your profile icon (in the mobile app) or the menu icon (web browser). Then, click Settings and support>Settings and Privacy.

Step 2: Tap on Privacy and Safety

After following the steps to open your Twitter settings, you’ll see a Privacy and Safety option. Tap it to move forward.

Step 4: Toggle the Switch

Twitter, Sensitive

When you open the Twitter-sensitive content floodgates, you’re bound to see a lot of information. Some of the content may violate Twitter’s guidelines, which you can report. Other content may be funny or interesting, but only for an adult audience.

If you decide you no longer want to see sensitive content, follow the same steps above to hide it. Of course, most of us have FOMO (fear of missing out), so we brace ourselves and let Twitter show us sensitive content.
