While meeting minutes can come in handy when you need to refer back to online meeting discussions, there is an easier way to recall information. Once you learn how to record a Zoom meeting, you can focus on taking notes afterward, share the meeting with coworkers who couldn’t attend, and make sure you complete tasks that you discussed during the meeting.

But how do you record a Zoom meeting? We’re sharing how to do so in just a few easy steps.

Zoom Meetings Will Be Locally Recorded

Zoom recordings are “locally recorded”, meaning that they are stored on the device that you’re using. Both free and paying users can utilize this way of recording meetings.

However, premium Zoom accounts also have access to the “Cloud” recording feature. These recordings are preserved in the Zoom Cloud and can be viewed, shared, and downloaded by anyone who has access to it.

You Can Record Via Computer or Phone

The best part about Zoom recording is that you can do so via your computer or phone (as long as you’re the host or have permission to record from the host of the meeting). First, we’ll share how to record on a desktop or laptop, and then how you can record on your phone. Going forward, our directions will assume that you’re the host of the meeting.

Step 1: Start Your New Meeting

First, you’ll want to start a new meeting or meeting that you already had scheduled. Zoom will then open up and showcase the meeting features.

Step 2: Press The Record Button

Once you’re ready to start your meeting, you can press the “record” button. If your meeting window isn’t full-screen, the option will be under the three dots labeled “more”, and you’ll need to click that button to start the recording.

If your meeting is in full-screen mode, you’ll simply press the “record” button. You can also press Alt + R if on a PC, or Command + Shift + R if on a Mac. You can choose to start a local recording, or if you’re a paid member, a cloud recording.

Step 3: Ensure The Meeting Is Being Recorded

Once the recording has started, you’ll see that it’s active because of the little recording mark that appears in the upper-left corner of your screen. If you don’t see that, you may want to press record again.

Step 4: Host Your Meeting

Now is the time to hold your meeting as normal. If at any time you need to pause (for example, a long meeting that requires a break), you can do so with the “pause” button in the upper left corner. Once you’re ready to stop the recording, simply press the square “stop” button, or end the meeting.

Step 5: Download Your Meeting

Once you’ve ended your meeting, Zoom will start converting the meeting. You can see how long it will take and where it will store. Once the rendering is complete, you will have the opportunity to save the recording wherever you want on your local computer or save it to the Zoom cloud if you’re a premium user. That’s it!

How To Record A Zoom Meeting On Your Phone

If you plan on attending a Zoom meeting on your phone and need to record it, it’s possible! It works similarly to recording a Zoom meeting on your computer.

First, you’ll open the Zoom app on your phone and start the meeting. Just like on a desktop or laptop, you’ll need to be the host of the meeting or have permission to record it.

Once in the meeting, you’ll press the record button and record the meeting as normal. Like the computer, you can just “end” the meeting to start downloading the recording or stop the recording at any time by pressing the button again. Unlike the computer, however, you’ll receive an email from Zoom that your recording has been rendered and is ready to download.

How to Record A Zoom Meeting Conclusion

There are multiple ways to record Zoom meetings directly from the app or your computer. Whichever option you choose, these steps will make it easy to record and download your meetings easily.
