The Outlast series has been giving gamers nightmares since 2013, offering players a look at the truly wretched things the Murkoff Corporation has done. With three games currently released and a fourth coming relatively soon, this is the definitive order on how to play the Outlast series of games.
How To Play the Outlast Games in Order
While there is a way to play the games in chronological order, it can be a bit confusing and does give some spoilers for other games, so the best way to play the games, especially for newcomers, is undoubtedly in release order.
The following is the order to play the games when it comes to their release:
- Outlast (2013)Outlast: Whistleblower DLC (2014)Outlast II (2017)The Outlast Trials (Closed Beta: 2022)
Outlast, Outlast: Whistleblower, and Outlast II are all included in the Outlast: Trinity pack, which is also the chronological order to play the games, save for the fact that Whistleblower is both a prequel and a sequel to the original. The latest Outlast game, The Outlast Trials, does take place decades before any of the other games, so chronologically that one takes place first.
The Outlast Trials launches its closed beta on Oct. 28, 2022, but the exact release date of the full game is unknown at this point. While this is unconfirmed, Sept. 2023 could be an excellent time for the final game to release, as that would be exactly ten years since the original came out.
That is everything you need to know about how to play the Outlast games in release order. For more coverage on The Outlast Trials and the Outlast franchise, keep an eye on Twinfinite, with some of the website’s previous coverage included in the links below.
