Here’s how you can play the new Halo game on your iPhone with Project xCloud.
Project xCloud is here as Microsoft’s answer to Google Stadia. It’s a cloud-based gaming app that lets you play high-quality games on low-end devices, such as your phone. It works the exact same way as Stadia: download the app, connect to a server somewhere that’s actually running the game, and just stream the game to your mobile device.
However, Project xCloud is still in its infancy. The program launched on Android last year and only just came to iOS last month. It’s also called a “preview,” which means that it’s basically still in beta. Expect some problems to arise, and that’s only if you get selected to take part in the trial.
The program launched with a limited number of slots: just 10,000 registrants were selected to take part. That doesn’t mean you can’t sign up for xCloud though as 1,000 players are cycled in and out every so often so that Microsoft gets data from a number of different devices.
Also, there’s only one game currently playable, and that’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection. That said, Microsoft is widely expected to add xCloud to the Xbox Game Pass which would give it a massive library to draw from.
How To Register And Play Halo On Your iPhone
Project xCloud has a few technical limitations to go over. First, you need an iOS device on iOS 13.0 or higher. You also need a Bluetooth enabled Xbox One controller and a phone capable of pairing to it. Finally, you’ll need an internet connection that’s got at least 10 MPBS download speed. You should have all that with a decent provider and an iPhone 7 or newer.
Next, you need to register. Head on over to this site and select “iOS” from the “Device” drop-down menu. Fill out the rest of the form with your info and then wait. If you’re selected to take part in the preview, you’ll get an email from TestFlight that says “Xbox Game Streaming (Preview).” This is your ticket in.
Open the email, click the link, and download the TestFlight app to your iPhone. After TestFlight is installed, you’ll then be able to download and install Project xCloud. Once xCloud is installed, all you gotta do is sign in with your Xbox Gamertag and start playing.
