Given the popularity of esports, it should come as no surprise that Mortal Kombat 11 has established a league for players called Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition that includes both online and offline tournaments.

The league is sponsored by Intersport and allows participants to take part in various tournaments in order to determine a champion. Player seeding will be determined through these events, with points being awarded to each player based on their performance. After the last tournament of the season, the top twelve players on the leaderboard will be invited to attend the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition finals in Chicago, Illinois.

You might be wondering why a third party is sponsoring such an event and it boils down to the fact that Warner Brothers has no interest in holding its own tournament, leaving fans of the franchise to make their own. In a way, this is probably for the best, but there’s always the hope that the success of the tournament will encourage WB to change its mind about future esport events related to the game.

The Prizes And How To Enter

While the $250,000 prize might entice you, the downside here is that you will only be able to participate on the PlayStation 4 currently. This might not seem like a big deal to some, but if you’ve spent your time playing the game on the Xbox or PC, this can put you at an immediate disadvantage. So, if you don’t own a PS4 and would like to participate, there’s still time for you to get used to the controls and practice enough to make a run. With the increased sales of the game, its only a matter of time before similar tournaments are offered on the other consoles as well.

Individuals who wish to join the league must be at least seventeen years old and will have to qualify for each stage of the tournament. They will also have to provide proof of identity before participating. Since the league will also require players to travel to LAN events to compete, minor entrants will need to be with their parents or guardians at all times. Additionally, players will need to have their Visa and tax paperwork on hand at each LAN event.

Though most players will be able to participate in online tournaments, those choosing to attend LAN events might have more problems, depending on their location. If you wish to attend any of these events, you’ll need to check with tournament organizers in your region to determine where your qualifying tournaments are and find out when they will be happening.

What Controllers Are You Allowed To Use?

Players who are used to their own equipment will be happy to learn that tournament organizers have decided to allow them to bring both their controller and headset to the tournament, though they have the option of denying use of either of these items at any time during the tournament.

Additionally, tournament rules dictate that players will not be allowed to use headphones, earbuds or other equipment during the tournament’s run unless it has been pre-approved for use first. Any player who breaks these rules or others established by the tournament organizers can be disqualified from the tournament at any time. Failure to provide proper documentation or Visa information will also result in disqualification from the tournament. If you intended to participate it is also worth noting that you must make every match at the preassigned time or risk immediate disqualification as a result.

If you’re like us and far from good enough to participate in the tournament don’t worry, you’ll be able to tune in on the fun and enjoy the events along the way. Intersport has provided fans with a Twitch channel that will allow them to view all players participating in the tournament.
