Steel is a potent offensive type in Pokémon and has been since its introduction in Generation 2. This is especially true in Scarlet and Violet, where the abundance of Fairy, Rock, and Flying types make Steel moves almost necessary to have on your team. Even if the Pokémon is not Steel type, teaching it a Steel move significantly increases type coverage. One of the best Steel moves to teach eligible Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet is Iron Head, which is a physical move with 80 base power and 100% accuracy. It also has a chance to flinch the Pokémon it hits, causing them to lose their turns. All these qualities combine to make Iron Head a spammable move and a great addition to any Pokémon’s moveset. How to get Iron Head TM in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Battling for the Iron Head TM
The Iron Head TM can be obtained in two ways within Scarlet and Violet. The first way is simply to battle Team Star and their bosses in the Starfall Street storyline. After beating each boss, you will unlock more TMs to craft at the TM machine, with Iron Head being one of them. Since Scarlet and Violet are nonlinear, there isn’t any definitive boss to beat to receive the TM. The game simply checks how many of the bosses you’ve beaten, not which specific bosses you’ve beaten.
You should have the recipe for the Iron Head TM after beating at most four out of the five Team Star Bosses. Most players beat Ortega, the Fairy-type specialist, as their fourth Team Star Boss since his level scaling is the second highest. His team is roughly level 50.
Once you have the Iron Head TM recipe in your inventory, you must craft it using various materials. You will need 8,000 League Points, five Cufant Tarnish, three Pawniard Blades, and three Rookidee Feathers. Once you have these materials, simply bring them to the TM machine at any Pokémon Center, and have the TM made.
Finding the Iron Head TM
The second way to get the Iron Head TM in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is to find it while exploring Paldea. It is located near the Casseroya Falls, next to a cave entrance where Glaseado Mountain and the Socarrat Trail meet.
Fly to Casseroya Falls and head northwest, following the path of wooden bridges. Keep traveling northwest; a cave entrance is elevated above the ground. Your ride Pokémon will need the climbing ability to reach the entrance, and the Iron Head TM is sitting just outside the entrance.
Obtaining the Iron Head TM from the overworld also unlocks it in the crafting menu, so you can add Iron Head to as many of your Pokémon as you want.
