Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the newest entry in the fighting games based off the popular series. With its action RPG gameplay, however, players will be able do much more than just relive iconic battles from the anime like the fight against Vegeta. In-game, Goku and the other fighters can explore the open world, interact with other NPCs and characters, and even find items that increase their power levels.
Out of the many materials which can be collected through the story, D Medals are important since they are the only way to strengthen one particular aspect of the skill trees through training. Finding D Medals will allow players to unlock and upgrade super attacks for the Z-Fighters, enabling them to take on the toughest encounters throughout many different Dragon Ball Z sagas. But unless players actively go looking for these medals, they normally might not have enough on hand to share with the whole team. Thankfully, there are two ways to acquire D Medals throughout the many story arcs in-game.
D Medals as a Main or Sub Story Reward
First and foremost, players can earn a limited amount of D Medals from progressing through every Dragon Ball Z Saga in the full story. Past that point, D Medals can be acquired as a reward from different Sub Stories. This is the best method since these side quests won’t take too long to finish and will award a D Medal most of the time in addition to other prizes like Soul Emblems. The only limiting factor for getting D Medals from Sub Stories is that most of the later side stories aren’t available until the start of a certain saga or when a particular episode has been reached. On that note, some Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Sub Stories will become unavailable when the main story progresses past a certain point. Players should look around and aim to complete all open side quests as the story progresses so they aren’t locked out of those upgrades forever.
D Medals in the World
Alternatively, players can also look for D Medals scattered across the world. Goku, Gohan, or other members of the team can find and interact with orbs in different parts of the world to receive a D Medal. These orbs are silver with strands spiraling upwards, but occasionally glow pink and green as well. Players can see these orbs from mid-air or using the “Ki Sense” function to focus the object on screen. Like Sub Stories, D Medals acquired from these orbs could be lost if the area changes or disappears as part of the main story arc. Explore and gather D Medals from as many areas in the overworld as possible to prevent this loss.
In the end, players aren’t forced to gather every single D Medal to complete the main story. However, the power boost they provide ultimately makes even the later bosses in the Buu Saga much easier. Thankfully, there may be a way to go back and acquire some forgotten D Medals in a future update with the Time Machine outside Capsule Corporation.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
