Gone are the days when the only thing you could do on Twitter was post a 140-character tweet. Now, you can share photos, stories, and videos. So, it’s likely to come across an exciting video and you may want to save it, watch later, or share it with others on other social media platforms.

Unfortunately, Twitter does not have the option to download videos whether you are using the Twitter app or browser. However, as is the case with almost everything else on the internet, there are workarounds that you can use to download a video. Follow these steps to download and save a Twitter video. 

Method 1: Downloading Twitter Videos on a PC or Desktop

Since there is no option to download Twitter videos on Twitter, you will need to download the video using third-party websites. Here are some websites you can use

#1. Downloading Using Circleboom

Step 1: Open the browser and log in to Circleboom

On your search engine, search circleboom.com to log in.

Step 2: Create an account 

Click on get started on circleboom.com to create your account. 

Step 3: Enter your details and click create an account. 

Enter your email address and a strong password to create an account. You can sign in to the free plan, which won’t require a credit card.  

Step 4: Authorize Circleboom to connect to Twitter 

Click on connect to Twitter to allow Circleboom to access your Twitter account. Circleboom will have access to every part of your account, even if it is private. 

Step 5: Click on the video download icon 

This icon is on the left sidebar menu and is in the shape of a cloud.

Step 6: Select the video downloader 

Select video Downloader, which pops up after you click on the video download icon. 

Paste the link to the Twitter video you want to download.

Get back to your Twitter account and get the link to the video you want to download. You can right-click in the video and select copy link to get the link. Next, open the Circleboom website and paste the video into the search bar. 

Step 8: Click on Grab that video file, then select Right-click here to save the video below it 

A new window opens where the video is downloaded and saved to your device.

Step 1: Open Twitter and go to the video you want to download 

You can also search for the video in the search bar. 

Step 2: Right-click on the video and select copy video address

When right-clicking to get the video address to ensure your cursor points at the video. 

Step 3: Open the save tweet vid website

Open a new tab and search savetweetvid.com to open the Twitter video downloader website. 

The link is still in your clipboard, so you can right-click and paste or use Ctrl+V to paste it.

Step 5: Select the video quality you want to download and hit download 

The higher the video quality, the clearly your video is. The video downloads and is saved in the default location for downloaded videos on your computer. 

#3. Downloading Twitter Videos Using Tinywow

Step 1: Open the Twitter video you want to download

Step 4: Open Tinywow

Open a new tab on your browser and search Tinywow.com

Step 5: Scroll down to Twitter download

Scroll down and search through the Tinywow conversions until you get to Twitter Download.

Step 6: Paste the URL to the box and click find video

The URL will still be in your clipboard, so you can use Ctrl+V to paste the link on the search bar and click find the video below it. 

Step 7: Click download and select the location to save the file

The video is downloaded and saved to the location you selected. If you have a download manager such as IDM, it downloads the video and saves it where it saves downloaded videos by default. 

Method 2: How to Download Twitter Videos from an Android Phone

The Android Twitter app does not allow downloading videos directly from Twitter. For this reason, you will need to use third-party apps to download. Here are the steps you follow to download videos to your Android phone:

Step 1: Install the Download Twitter Videos app

Open the Play store on your Android phone, and search the Download Twitter Videos app. Click install to download it to your phone. 

Step 2: Open the Twitter app and go to the tweet you want to download

After downloading the app, go back to your apps list, open the Twitter app, and navigate to the video you want to download.

Step 3: Get the Twitter video URL

Tap on the share button and select copy link to tweet.

Step 4: Paste the URL in the Download Twitter Videos app

Leave the Twitter app and open the Download Twitter Videos app. Paste the link you copied in the Twitter app in the search bar.

Step 5: Download the video

Hit the download button at the bottom right corner. The video downloads and is saved on your phone’s gallery app. You can also access it in the Download Twitter Videos app. 

Method 3: How to Download Twitter Videos on an iPhone

You will need third-party apps to download Twitter videos on your iPhone. Some apps you can download from the Apple store are Documents by Readle or My Media Application. After downloading either of these apps, follow these steps.

Find the option to copy the video link under the share button at the bottom of the screen. 

Step 3: Open the app you downloaded from the Apple store 

Go back to your iPhone’s main menu and open the app you installed for downloading Twitter videos. 

Step 4: Tap on the browser icon at the bottom right corner to launch an in-app browser 

At the bottom of the screen, select browser to activate an in-app browser.

Step 5: In the in-app browser, search www.twittervideodownloader.com

Type www.twitter video downloader.com in the in-app browser and hit enter to search. 

Step 7: Select the quality of the videos you want to download and click download video

Select the quality you want. The higher the video quality, the clearer the video will be. 

Step 8: Save the downloaded video

Open the download Twitter video app and select save to camera roll. This will save the downloaded video in your device’s storage

Method 4: Downloading Twitter Videos Using a Chrome Extension

If you use a Chrome extension, you won’t need a third-party website or install an app. It is one of the easiest methods to download Twitter videos if you’ve logged into your Twitter account through the Chrome browser. Follow these steps.

Step 1: Click on the three dots below the close icon on Chrome to open a menu 

Click on the three dots at the top-right in Chrome to open a menu.

Step 2: Open settings and click on extensions in the left panel menu 

Under the main menu, select extensions in the left panel menu. 

Step 3: Open the Chrome web store

Click on the three lines at the top right and select open Chrome web store at the bottom. 

Step 4: Search video downloader plus and click add to chrome 

Search for the Chrome extension you want to add and click on Add to Chrome to add the extension. 

Step 5: Play the video you want to download

Open Twitter on Chrome and play the video you want to download.

Step 6: Click on the video downloader plus extension at the top 

Step 7: Select the quality of the video you want to download and click start 

The video is automatically downloaded. 

Method 5: Downloading Twitter Videos Using VLC Media Player

For you to use the VLC media player to download a Twitter video, you will need to have the .m3u8 link. M3u8 is a file format that stores playlists by video and audio playback programs. You get this link from the video you want to download. Here is how to go about it.

Step 1: Log in to Twitter and open the video you wish to download 

Open your Twitter account and look for the video you want to download.

Step 2: Press F12 to open developer tools 

With the video open, click on F12 to open the video’s developer tools. If this doesn’t work, press FN+F12. 

Step 3: On developer tools, click on more options then network 

On the top menu, click on the two forward arrows to open more options and select network under those options. 

Step 4: Play the video you want to download 

Click on the play arrow in the video.

Step 5: Type .m3u8 in the filter text box. You’ll get a list of videos of that file type.

Go back to the developer menu side and type .m3u8. You get a list of all videos of that type. 

After selecting the video quality you wish to download, this link is saved in the clipboard. You can then proceed to download the Twitter video in the VLC media player now that you have the m3u8 link. 

Step 1: Download VLC if you don’t have it on your computer 

Open the official VLC download site and download VLC for windows or Apple based on the device you have. 

Step 2: Open the app, and on the home screen, select convert/ save 

Open the app and then the app menu. Scroll down to the convert/save option.

Open the network tab and paste the m3u8 link in your clipboard on the enter URL field.

Step 4: Scroll down to convert

Click the down-facing arrow next to convert/save and scroll down to convert. 

Step 5: Select profile, then settings

On the window that opens, select profile, then click settings. 

Step 6: Check the keep original video track box 

Step 7: Move to the audio codec tab and check the keep original video track option 

Step 8: Scroll down and click on save 

Step 9: Choose the file destination 

Step 10: Download the video

Click Start, and VLC will download the video.

Conclusion 

It is frustrating to learn that you can’t download a video you came across on Twitter to watch later or share with others. Thankfully, there are other methods that you can use to get the video to your device, even without a direct video download option on Twitter. Use third-party websites on your computer or apps on your phone. Alternatively, get a chrome extension to help you download these videos.
