As working remotely has increased in recent years, more of us are becoming familiar with Slack. This platform is a great way to communicate with your team. But you may run into the issue of forgetting your Slack password or needing to update it to be more secure.

The first line of defense in keeping your account secure on any platform is your password, and a safe one is essential. Fortunately, here’s how to change your Slack password easily.

Before You Change Your Password

Your password for Slack must be at least six characters long. Also, it can’t be a well-known password like “123456,” your name, or something like “password.” As with most systems, Slack won’t allow you to use the same password twice.

To avoid issues, we suggest a password with at least 10 characters for security measures, including numbers and symbols (like *, #, and !).

How to Change Your Slack Password

Now that you know how to create a better and safer password, let’s talk about how to do it!

Step 1: Log In to Slack

The first step to changing your password is logging into your Slack workspace or account. It doesn’t matter if you’re logging into a specific workspace, because you’ll be able to get into your account any way you log in.

Step 2: Go to Your Account Settings

Next up, if you’re in a workspace, you’ll want to click your profile photo in the right-hand corner. From there you’ll scroll and choose ‘Account Settings.’ This will take you to a new tab or window.

Step 3: Expand the Password Settings

At this point, you should be able to see your password, email, and other account settings. You’ll need to expand the password option to update your old one.

Step 4: Change Your Password

Once you’ve expanded the password area, you’ll need to enter your old password and the new password you want to use. If you can’t remember your old password, you can click the button and Slack will send you an email to update to a new password.

Once you’ve changed the password, click ‘Save‘. From there, Slack will update it automatically and let you know that it was successful.
