Tips for Changing Security Settings on TikTok

With so many security setting options available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Below are some tips for making changes to your security settings on TikTok, such as enabling two-factor authentication, using a strong password, and setting up account recovery options.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

The most important thing you can do to protect your account is to enable two-factor authentication. Two-factor authentication requires you to enter a code sent to your phone number or email address in addition to your Password when logging into your account.

This added layer of security helps protect your account from hacking attempts and ensures that only you have access to your account.

To enable two-factor authentication, go to your profile settings, then tap on “Settings and Privacy,” and then Tap on “Security.” Once you enter, you will have to tap on “Two-factor authentication.” Set up the feature considering your preferences.

Use a Strong Password

Another important tip is to use a strong password. A strong password is difficult for others to guess and is at least eight characters long. However, it must include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. You should avoid using any information that can be guessed easily, such as your name, birth date, or school name. It would be better if you use a password that is easy for you but hard for others to guess.

Be Careful When Granting Access to Third-Party Apps

It is essential to be careful of the apps and websites that you connect to your TikTok account. When you connect your TikTok account to another app or website, it may have access to your account’s personal information and activity. You must be mindful when granting access and only do so for apps and websites you trust.

To review and disconnect apps and websites that are connected to your TikTok account, go to your profile settings, then tap on “Settings and Privacy.” Tap on “Security,” and there you will find a “Manage apps” option.

Set Up Account Recovery Options

It is a great idea to set up account recovery options. These recovery options can be your email address and phone number. So that in case you ever lose access to your account, you can quickly and easily recover it. To set up account recovery options, go to your profile settings, tap “Settings and Privacy,” and then tap “Report a problem.” There you will find the “Account Recovery” option under the section of Quick Access. Choose the account recovery methods according to your own specific preferences.
