TikTok is a fun and entertaining social media platform. You can learn new things, laugh at funny videos, or take up dancing on the platform. While Tiktok is technically all fun and games, sometimes you’ll meet users who don’t brighten your day. Some may harass you or dish out offensive content.

The good thing is you can block anyone who gets on your nerves in Tiktok. Follow the simple steps below. We’ll also share some helpful tips to help you better your TikTok browsing experience.

What Happens When You Block Someone on TikTok

Every platform handles blocking differently, and TikTok is no exception. When you block a Tiktok user, they can’t see your content or interact with you. But there’s more to blocking than protecting your future peace. What happens to the content you shared before you hit the block button?

TikTok DMs

If you sent DMs to someone on TikTok before blocking them, they could still see your messages. What’s worse is you can’t unsend DMs on TikTok, either. So, if you follow the steps below, remember that the user still has access to previously sent DMs.

Stitches, Duets, and Past Videos

Next, if they stitched, saved, or duetted one of your videos, they still have access to them. Although they can’t see any of your videos after blocking (new or old ones), if they saved or recorded one, you can’t get it back.

Knowing You’re Blocked

Lastly, the user won’t receive notifications you blocked their account. However, some account behaviors indicate that you did block them. They will know you hit the block on their account if they’re resourceful enough. For example, your TikTok account will not appear when they search it, and any comments they left on your videos will disappear.

If you need to block someone on TikTok, follow the steps below so they can’t interact with you anymore.

How to Block Someone on TikTok from a Profile

The easiest way to block someone is to go straight to their profile. If you don’t want to see another user’s content, receive messages from them, or let them see your posts, follow these steps to block someone from their TikTok profile:

Step 1: Navigate to the User’s Profile

Of course, this method means you either know their username or they interacted with you somehow.

The first step is to navigate to the user’s profile.

Helpful hint: If they sent you a DM, tap their profile icon to go straight to their profile. If they commented on one of your videos, you can tap their username and go to their profile.

Step 2: Tap the Three-Dot Icon

When you reach the profile page, tap on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Tap Block

A drop-down menu will appear, and you can tap Block. Then, confirm that you want to block the user.

How to Block Someone on TikTok from a Video

Sometimes, you’re innocently scrolling TikTok and come across a video that’s highly offensive or from a creator you don’t want to see again. If that’s the case, follow these steps to block the user:

Step 1: Tap Their Profile Icon

If you’re familiar with TikTok, you may be surprised that the video’s menu icon doesn’t give us a block option. Instead, you’ll need to go to the user’s profile.

Step 2: Block the User

Click the three-dot icon in the upper right corner then select Block. Be sure to confirm that you wish to block the user before getting back to scrolling.

How to Unblock Someone on TikTok

If you have a change of heart, you can easily unblock someone on TikTok. When you do, they can send you DMs, watch videos, and comment on your content.

Here is how to unblock someone on TikTok.

Step 1: Go to Settings

Tap your Profile Icon and tap the three lines in the upper right corner. Then, tap Settings and privacy.

Step 2: Tap Privacy

In the settings window, tap the Privacy option.

Step 3: Tap Blocked accounts

At the bottom of the privacy window, you’ll see an option for Blocked accounts. Tap it to see a list of all the accounts you blocked on TikTok.

Step 4: Tap Unblock

Next to the user’s name that you want to interact with, tap Unblock.

How to Report Someone on TikTok

Perhaps someone posted a TikTok video you aren’t fond of, and you think it violates TikTok’s community guidelines. You can report it to TikTok, and they’ll investigate it. If the company agrees with you that the video violates the guidelines they’ll remove it and possibly ban the user.

Here’s what to do to report someone on TikTok

Step 1: Tap the Share Icon

If you’re looking at the video in question, you can tap the Share Icon (in the lower left corner of the video) to access the Report option.

Step 2: Tap Report

A new menu will appear at the bottom of your screen. Tap Report asking you to provide more details on why you’re reporting the video. Fill out the forms and wait for TikTok to confirm they received the report.

Helpful hint: If you don’t think the video violates the guidelines but aren’t interested in the genre, you can tap the “Not Interested” button.

So Long TikTok Foe

Social media sites typically allow users to block other users, and TikTok isn’t an exception. You can block any user that threatens your sense of peace or enjoyment while scrolling. If the offense is great enough, you can report the user so TikTok knows their antics aren’t acceptable.

If you change your mind, you’re welcome to unblock the other user from the settings and start interacting with them again. However, the block option is readily available to make your scrolling experience more enjoyable, so don’t be afraid to use it whenever you like.
