The arrival of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep has been highly anticipated by players for months and appears to be a big hit with players, veterans and newcomers alike. But as with any ambitious expansion, there are some bugs along the way that players may need to be mindful of. One such issue relates to the new Gate Lord’s Eye and the potential to become locked out of its beneficial endgame power augmentation.

This item is unlocked once players reach level seven of the new Destiny 2 Battle Pass system, and its purpose is to provide a means to continually progress a character’s Power Level past the current hard cap of 950. By continuing to play the game and level up, the Gate Lord’s Eye will allow for indefinite growth, though diminishing returns are likely going to make this only useful to a certain point. Unfortunately, a bug is locking players out of the item and its benefit of progression permanently until a patch is released to remedy the error.

The problem is described in the Destiny 2 subreddit by a user who states that they attempted to claim their Season Artifact while inside of a Nightfall, and it was not properly added to their character. As a result, they appear to be locked out until Bungie offers a formal solution. The issue is not completely new, as attempting to claim rewards during Nightfall strike missions is already ill-advised among the community. This is because the player themselves or other players may be loading in and out of the area, which can glitch the item, as appears to have been the case here.

For now, the obvious recommendation is to never attempt to claim a reward within a Nightfall strike or other similar types of game modes, and to only do so in places that should be free of any kind of loading activity for the player. For the next few months while the hype is still high and the servers struggle to accommodate the many players in the game, players should keep in mind the riskiness of claiming anything within a Nightfall strike and instead only do so in stable places like social or quest hubs.

Hopefully the error is fixed soon because the Gate Lord’s Eye looks to be a fantastic addition to the core of the game. Other games have implemented similar systems in the past: World of Warcraft has now for a number of expansions included a way to gradually augment a character’s power long after hitting the level cap.

Otherwise, the launch of Shadowkeep and the free-to-play version of the game, New Light, appear to be highly successful for Bungie. Other glitches appear to be minimal, and the expansion is rolling out in an overall smooth way.
