One of the biggest announcements made at The Game Awards on Thursday was Microsoft’s reveal of the brand new Xbox Series X. While not everyone loved the design of the new Xbox console, viewers were still interested in exactly what the next generation could be bringing to gaming.

Based on the presentation, it appears that the Xbox Series X will be a marked improvement from both the Xbox One as well as the Xbox One X. Microsoft didn’t take the time to show exactly how much more powerful the new console is than its predecessor, but fortunately some astute gaming analysts have compiled the system’s specs.

The two most important differences between the Series X and the previous consoles are GPU Power and Image Quality. When it comes to GPU Power, the Series X clocks in at about 12 teraflops, making it twice as powerful as the Xbox One X and eight times more powerful that the original Xbox One. The image quality is a little trickier, as Microsoft claims that the new console will support 8K gaming with 120 frames per second, blowing the Xbox One X’s 4K with 60 frames out of the water, but this reportedly may not be coming at launch.

Thanks to a tweet by @Nibellion for compiling all of the Xbox Series X’s specs, gamers can match the specs up between the consoles. However, one interesting change is in the system is the addition of an SSD, similar to the rumored drive powering the PS5’s load speed, meaning that both systems may have comparable specs. This certainly makes the upgrade from the Xbox One X to the Series X a much larger jump than the upgrade from Xbox One to the Xbox One X.

Gamers will have a tough choice coming in the 2020 holiday season, but from what Microsoft’s announcement has shown, the Xbox One X should be completely worth it for anyone who chooses to side with Xbox in the next generation. One welcome improvement that might sway players who passed on the Xbox One is the addition of a share button directly to the Series X controller. This alone may be enough to take the new console above and beyond over its predecessor for players who thoroughly enjoy sharing their play sessions and screenshots.

Granted, while the new console is leagues beyond the previous one, it’s still difficult to know what exactly the differences between the Xbox Series X and PS5 are going to be. Only time will tell for sure.

Xbox Series X is set to release Holiday 2020.
