Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios are expected to roll out Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat League Season 8 in the coming days. The Season of Naknadan Greed, which notably shares its title with a shrine in the Krypt, will give players 4 weeks of rewards running from February 18 to March 17. And while many may be happy with its offerings, it’s worth mentioning that nothing is perfect.

As such, expecting the Kombat League to be so as well is unrealistic, despite how well-received and well-designed it and Mortal Kombat 11 overall are. There are a few areas that could be improved or fixed for a better experience, so going into season 8, here’s a few ideas that do well to be implemented.

A Mortal Kombat 11 WiFi Filter

Perhaps one of the most oft-requested feature is a WiFi filter that helps Mortal Kombat 11 players set a specific ping range. For some, this can be a defining factor in the match, as a bad pair up could lead to an unnecessary, or at the very least annoying, loss of points. And factoring in the time frame of a single season as well as personal lives, this can make competing in the ranked MK11 mode more stressful for some players who are looking for match ups but keep finding those whose ping creates an unfair playing field.

Mortal Kombat 11’s Ranking and Reward System

In that, Mortal Kombat 11’s ranking and reward system for Kombat League could use some fine tuning. With every season lasting about a month and the point decay remaining an issue for many, it’s seems that Kombat League is designed to benefit those who can play frequently. On the one hand, it’s obvious how this system  encourages community engagement, but on the other, it can be damaging for those with complicated personal lives.

An alternative reward system would likely be graced by many fans, but this would almost indubitably be a hard line to walk. After all, too far one way makes certain rewards far more rare than they should be, but too far the other would lead to accusations of being too easy or with too big of a focus on economy. That’s all to say that, while it may be hard, it is possible to improved Mortal Kombat 11’s Reward system.

Queuing Up in Kombat League While in Training Mode

A major improvement would be the ability to queue up for Kombat League while practicing in Mortal Kombat 11’s training mode, though this wouldn’t necessarily benefit everyone. Depending on where a player lives, servers, and more, a majority of the fanbase can likely load into a match relatively quick, but that can’t be said for everyone. For fans of the gory fighting game but with less ideal queue times, this would be a big way to keep them entertained while waiting. This is also common in other fighting games like Street Fighter 5.

More Ways to Unlock Kombat League Skins

Special skins are key in several games to encourage playing, and that’s true for Kombat League as well. However, there have been a few times Kombat League skins could be unlocked via an alternative method some time after the fact. This should happen more, especially for the benefit of those who prefer SP over Kombat League. It would mean that these rewards aren’t just for one-type of gamer.

Of course, that could quickly degrade how special certain skins are, but there could be ways to differentiate. A small difference or some way to show that this was unlocked alternatively as opposed to the Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat League could go a long way, but it’s also worth noting that it doesn’t have to be every single MK11 skin. High-tier skins should always remain special, but there’s ways to be more inclusive here.

Variety in Mortal Kombat 11 Matchmaking

It happens to everyone: at some point, loading into the Kombat League means fighting a succession of the same characters who are spamming for gains. While this helps players overcome that, it’s still not a fun match, so if the Matchmaking could predict character selections and adjust accordingly, it could go a long way. For example, if it detected that one player has played Mortal Kombat 11’s Scorpion ten times in a row and someone has already fought two scorpions, perhaps the queue could be re-worked. No doubt, that’s easier said than done, but for every Scorpion in Kombat League, there’s someone who has fought 5 Scorpions who spam OP combos.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
